Resumo

This article presents and discusses a neuroscience teaching proposal for undergraduate health science courses, grounded in an integrative literature review and the systematized account of the authors' teaching experience. The aim is to demonstrate how content related to cortical neuroarchitecture and neuroconnectivity, encompassing neural system phylogeny, ontogeny of cortical layers, and cellular bases of complex behavior, can be organized into a didactic sequence linking morphophysiological foundations to concrete behavioral examples. The proposal was developed and implemented by the last author over more than fifteen years in Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology, and Neuroscience courses at the Universidade Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG) and prior institutions, including courses in Psychology, Physical Therapy, Medicine, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, and Biomedicine. Pedagogical strategies described include the use of three-dimensional models built by students, two-dimensional diagrams, digital resources, comparative behavioral examples, and clinical simulation with unfixed animal specimens. Results indicate that a phylogenetic progression as structural axis, combined with active model construction, use of the instructor's own research images, and hypothetical clinical pathway analysis, enhances integrated understanding of the structure-function-behavior relationship and increases student engagement. It is concluded that the proposal holds potential as a supporting material and methodological reference for neuroscience education in undergraduate health programs, with implications for teacher training and research in health science education.
