Abstract

Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) occurs when the lack of blood flow to the coronary arteries, due to the rupture of an atheroma plaque or the formation of a thrombus, leads to complete obstruction of the artery. If not treated promptly, it can result in the death of heart tissue. Like age, sex also affects the clinical presentation of acute myocardial infarction. Socioeconomic factors can influence blood pressure control, exemplified by the level of education and income. Given this, it is essential to identify the epidemiological profile of AMI and compare AMI mortality between genders in the State of Alagoas. This study is a descriptive and retrospective epidemiological survey that used secondary data available in the TABNET/DATASUS system. Over a period of five years, between 2018 and 2022, there was a predominance of males, aged 60-69 years, of mixed race, without formal education and with a predominance of married men. Therefore, considering the relevance of the topic and the results obtained, it is necessary to focus on the public health of the municipality under study, with special attention to groups that presented a higher risk of mortality due to AMI. It is essential to implement educational programs that promote healthy eating and the prevention of comorbidities.
