Abstract

This article aims to evaluate the clinical aspects of acute appendicitis performed in the last five years. Integrative review in the BVS, LILACS, SciELO, PubMed database of works published between 2020 and 2024, combining the descriptors "acute appendicitis", "diagnosis" and "treatment". Appendicitis is inflammation of the cecal appendix, that is located in the first portion of the large intestine, on the lower right side of the abdomen. It is concluded that the diagnosis of acute appendicitis is made through observation of the clinical picture and physical examination, and can be confirmed by imaging tests and laboratory tests. The treatment is surgical and aims to remove the appendix to avoid infections and complications.
