Abstract

Introduction: Chagas disease is an anthropozoonosis caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi and remains one of the major public health challenges in Latin America. It is classified by the World Health Organization as a neglected tropical disease with high morbidity and mortality, affecting more than 7 million people worldwide. Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile and trends of Acute Chagas Disease cases from 2007 to 2024, identifying transmission patterns and the population groups at greatest risk in municipalities of the state of Pará, Brazil. Methods: This was a descriptive, retrospective epidemiological study based on an integrative review, using secondary data obtained from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) and the Pará State Department of Public Health, covering the period from 2007 to 2024. Results: The time series showed a higher number of cases in Abaetetuba, with peaks in 2012 (63 cases), 2022 (68 cases), and 2024 (55 cases). In Barcarena, fewer cases were reported, with the highest peak occurring in 2024 (29 cases). Oral transmission predominated, accounting for 72.5% to 88.6% of all reported cases. A predominance of males and individuals aged 20–59 years was observed, along with a high concentration of cases in urban areas. Conclusion: The municipalities analyzed remain priority areas for epidemiological surveillance, particularly due to the persistence of oral transmission in the Amazon region.
