Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory gynecological disease that can cause pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, gastrointestinal symptoms, infertility, and impaired quality of life. Considering the role of inflammation and oxidative stress in its pathophysiology, diet has been investigated as a complementary treatment strategy. This study aimed to analyze the influence of diet on the management of endometriosis symptoms and on the quality of life of affected women. An integrative literature review with a descriptive and qualitative approach was conducted. The search included articles published between 2021 and 2026 and available in PubMed/MEDLINE, the Virtual Health Library, SciELO, and Google Scholar. Studies investigating dietary patterns, specific diets, nutrients, supplements, or bioactive compounds associated with the clinical manifestations of the disease were included. The results indicated potential benefits of the Mediterranean diet for pain and oxidative stress, of the low-FODMAP diet for gastrointestinal symptoms, and of certain nutrients and antioxidants for inflammatory and oxidative markers. However, the evidence regarding supplementation and restrictive diets showed heterogeneous results. It was concluded that diet may contribute to the management of specific manifestations and to improvements in quality of life, but there is still no single nutritional strategy suitable for all women. Therefore, dietary interventions should be individualized, supervised by a nutritionist, and used as a complement to medical treatment.
