Abstract

This article aims to conduct a study in the medical literature on the psychological aspects of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), which is a condition that affects many women of reproductive age, characterized by a series of physical and emotional symptoms that occur in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. Psychological aspects, such as irritability, anxiety, depression and mood swings, are especially impactful, interfering with women's quality of life and daily activities. Although the exact causes of PMS are not entirely specific, it is believed that a combination of hormonal, neurochemical and psychological factors are involved. The management of PMS includes a variety of therapeutic interventions, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, that aim to alleviate symptoms and improve emotional well-being. Understanding these psychological aspects is crucial for the development of more effective and personalized treatment approaches. The search engines PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO and Google Scholar were used to select articles through the keywords.
