Abstract

Introduction: The clinical syndrome known as preeclampsia is characterized by maternal endothelial dysfunction, resulting in elevated blood pressure and several problems in vital organs. Methods: This study consisted of an integrative review conducted through the Scopus, PubMed® and SciELO databases, using the descriptors congenital Chagas disease, pregnancy and treatment. Studies published in the last 14 years, in English, Spanish or Portuguese, that addressed the topic were included. Results and discussions: Although the use of magnesium sulfate is widely recommended for the prevention of seizures in preeclampsia before delivery, its application in the postpartum period remains uncertain, especially in patients without neurological signs. Additionally, the assessment and management of volume status in patients with postpartum preeclampsia are essential, considering the high incidence of complications. The use of diuretics, such as furosemide, has been shown to be effective in reducing blood pressure and decreasing the need for rehospitalization. Conclusion: Management of postpartum preeclampsia requires rapid control of severe hypertension with medications such as labetalol and nifedipine, and the use of magnesium sulfate in cases with neurological signs. Remote monitoring and the use of diuretics help prevent complications and rehospitalizations.
