Introduction: Sleep is a basic physiological need for every living being, and is vital to maintain good conditions for biological and psychological development. During sleep, several important reactions occur for the body. Specifically, during slow wave sleep there is a reduction in blood pressure, heart rate, a reduction in the sympathetic activity of the central nervous system and an increase in parasympathetic activity, as well as a reduction in glucose metabolism. Objective: To describe the impact of sleep on hormonal regulation and metabolic.Method: Integrative review carried out in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and PubMed. A combination of the terms “neuroimaging technology” and neurological diseases were used. Original articles published between 2014 and 2024 were included, available in full and free of charge in Portuguese and English. Articles were excluded by reading the title and abstract, selecting those that were related to the objective. Results: It was evident that several changes in metabolism resulting from sleep deprivation culminate in the development of pathologies Conclusion: Sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea and insomnia, can trigger a cascade of negative effects on the body, including changes in metabolism glucose and hormonal balance.
