Abstract

Neonatal health care is a crucial area within pediatrics, focused on the care of newborns, especially those who require emergency interventions. Neonatal emergency situations may include respiratory problems, infections, congenital malformations, and other conditions that require immediate intervention to ensure the survival and well-being of the newborn. The review was conducted through a systematic search of the literature available in the PubMed, Scielo and Cochrane Library databases, using keywords such as "neonatal care", "neonatal emergency", "neonatal ventilatory support", "neonatal resuscitation" and " neonatal infections.” Articles published between 2019 and 2024, in English and Portuguese, that addressed emergency interventions in newborns were included. Neonatal care in emergency situations is a dynamic area that requires constant updating and adaptation to new scientific evidence. Neonatal resuscitation is one of the main emergencies faced in the delivery room. Protocols such as the American Heart Association's Neonatal Resuscitation Program (PRN) have been widely adopted, emphasizing the importance of positive pressure ventilation and administration of adequate oxygen. Studies show that regular training of health teams is essential to improve neonatal outcomes. Strengthening health policies, investing in infrastructure and continuing education for health professionals are essential to guarantee the quality of emergency neonatal care.
