A INFLUÊNCIA DA VIA DE PARTO NA AMAMENTAÇÃO

The Ministry of Health recommends that babies receive exclusive breast milk during the first six months of life, as this is the only food capable of providing all the necessary nutrients, in addition to offering important benefits for health and the bond between mother and child. Studies suggest that the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding may be related to the mode of delivery. The study aims to investigate the benefits of breastfeeding and identify factors associated with the mode of delivery that may influence the success of breastfeeding. The literature review methodology was used, in which articles published in the last five years were selected from searches in the BIREME and Google Scholar databases. Six studies were included for in-depth analysis, addressing the importance of breastfeeding for maternal and child health and the influence of the mode of delivery on breastfeeding. The research revealed that breastfeeding offers several benefits for the baby's development, contributes to the reduction of maternal diseases and strengthens the mother-child bond. Although the mode of delivery alone is not a determining factor for adherence to exclusive breastfeeding up to six months, cesarean delivery was associated with a lower probability of skin-to-skin contact in the first hour of life and a higher risk of early weaning, especially when combined with factors such as pain during breastfeeding, hypogalactia, and use of formula. It is concluded that breastfeeding is crucial for the health of the mother and baby, but can be hindered by several factors, leading to early weaning. The mode of delivery influences breastfeeding indirectly, since mothers who had a cesarean section faced greater initial difficulties in breastfeeding. Nursing plays an essential role in guiding breastfeeding, identifying problems and offering support. In addition, it is essential that pregnant women arrive at the birth well informed about the implications of the mode of delivery on breastfeeding, their health and the health of their baby.
