ABSTRACT
Schizophrenia is a severe psychotic disorder characterized by disturbances in thinking, perception and emotions. The pathology begins at a young age, generating intense suffering, significantly impairing the quality of life, such as cognitive functional impairments. The characteristic recurring phenomena of the disease are characterized by deviation of thoughts that can occur delusions (ideas that are not based on reality) and hallucinations (hearing voices, seeing objects and smells that do not exist in the real world). As a treatment, pharmacological intervention demonstrates successful results, however, in symptoms of conviction, delusional and enlightening thoughts, the symptomatic content is maintained. The objective is to investigate how the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach is effective for the psychological treatment of schizophrenic psychotic disorder. An integrative review was carried out, using the PubMed and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. Covering the period from 2019 to 2024. The keywords included are: “Schizophrenia” OR “Hallucination” AND “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy” and other related descriptors. The results showed that cognitive behavioral therapy is considered the standard for the treatment of schizophrenia. Exposure and behavioral activation techniques provide an improvement in the negative symptoms of the disease, in addition, metacognitive training when used in beliefs rooted in the distorted delusional nature obtains a reduction in cognitive biases. It is concluded that the cognitive behavioral therapeutic approach is a treatment that proves effective in the course of the disease, remedying the symptoms and aligning with a better quality of life.
Keywords: Schizophrenia; Psychosis; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
