Abstract

Introduction: Acute Lymphoid Leukemia (ALL) is the most common type of childhood cancer and is one of the leading causes of death in children. With advances in treatments and increased survival, the need for rehabilitation to improve functionality and quality of life is reinforced, in which physiotherapy plays a key role. Objectives: To evaluate the perception and level of knowledge of physiotherapy students about physiotherapeutic interventions in the integrated treatment of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Methods: An observational cross-sectional study using an online questionnaire with physiotherapy students enrolled in the final year of the course (7th and 8th semesters) at Universidade Cidade de São Paulo UNICID, aged over 18 years, of both sexes, and who agreed to sign the informed consent form. The questionnaire included personal information, assertions about pediatric oncology, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, treatment and physiotherapeutic interventions in children with ALL, formulated with answers on a Likert scale (1 to 5 points). To analyze the questions, the Average Ranking (MR) was calculated. Results: Of the 80 responding students, 59 (74%) were female and 42 (52.5%) were in the seventh semester. The average age of the students was ± 27.5 years. The average MR regarding the items related to pediatric oncology was 4.04. For the items related to acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the average MR was 3.9. Regarding physiotherapy in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the average MR was 4.07. Conclusion: Students have basic knowledge about physiotherapeutic interventions in the integrated treatment of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
