Abstract

This article aims to evaluate the clinical aspects of pharyngotonsillitis experienced in the last five years. Integrative review in the VHL, LILACS, SciELO, PubMed database of works published between 2019 and 2023, combining the descriptors "pharyngotonsillitis", "diagnosis" and "treatment" with the Boolean descriptor "AND". It is concluded that pharyngotonsillitis is an acute infection of the pharynx, tonsils, or both. Symptoms may include sore throat, cervical lymphadenopathy, and fever. Diagnosis is clinical, complemented by culture or rapid antigen testing. Treatment depends on the symptoms and, in the case of group A beta-hemolytic streptococci, involves antibiotics.
