USO DE FÁRMACOS ANTI-INFLAMATÓRIOS NÃO ESTEROIDAIS E SEUS IMPACTOS NA REABILITAÇÃO FISIOTERAPÊUTICA DA ENTORSE DE TORNOZELO

Abstract

Ankle sprains are highly prevalent musculoskeletal injuries with significant functional impacts and a tendency toward recurrence. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used in the initial management of these injuries, although their influence on tissue recovery and rehabilitation still requires critical investigation. The overall objective of this study is to analyze the effects of anti-inflammatory drugs in the physiotherapy rehabilitation of ankle sprains. This is an integrative literature review covering the period 2021 to 2025, conducted through a systematic search in databases such as Scielo, PubMed, and ScienceDirect, using controlled descriptors and previously defined eligibility criteria. The results indicate that, although NSAIDs play an important role in pain relief and edema control in the acute phase of the injury, their prolonged use can compromise the inflammatory response necessary for ligament regeneration. It was also observed that physical therapy, especially when initiated early and based on functional and proprioceptive exercises, is essential for recovery and prevention of new injuries. It is concluded that the prescription of anti-inflammatory drugs should be judicious and integrated into the physical therapy plan, respecting the biological mechanisms of healing and the phases of rehabilitation. Furthermore, the study reinforces the need for an evidence-based clinical approach and individualized therapy.
