Abstract

This work addresses reading and writing as essential skills in Basic Education, focusing on the early years of Elementary School. The central problem lies in the need to understand how these practices are addressed in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and how they contribute to the comprehensive development of students. The research is justified by the relevance of written language in the development of critical thinking, personal expression, and social participation among students. The methodology adopted is bibliographic research, based on authors who discuss the teaching of writing, and content analysis, used to systematically examine the selected documents and works. The main objective is to analyze how the BNCC guides the teaching of reading and writing, highlighting its pedagogical implications and the challenges faced by educators. The aim is to contribute to the improvement of teaching practices and the appreciation of language as a tool for civic development.
