Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the multidisciplinary approach to the clinical management of children with Down syndrome in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), highlighting care strategies that promote clinical stability, global development, and humanized assistance. This is an integrative literature review. The search was conducted in the BDENF, LILACS, and SciELO databases using the descriptors “Down Syndrome,” “Intensive Care Units,” and “Multidisciplinary Team,” combined with the Boolean operator AND. Full-text articles available in Portuguese or English and published between 2019 and 2025 that addressed intensive care for children with Down syndrome were included. Duplicate studies, book chapters, theses, monographs, and incomplete materials were excluded. The findings show that clinical management requires an integrated approach including cardiological assessment, respiratory support, early physiotherapy intervention, nutritional follow-up, and psychosocial support for families. It is concluded that multidisciplinary practice in the ICU is essential to reduce complications, optimize recovery, and promote safe, individualized, and humanized care.
