Abstract

ABSTRACT

The Kangaroo Method is a humanized neonatal care strategy based on early and continuous skin-to-skin contact between premature newborns and their parents, especially the mother. This method promotes physiological stability, improves neurobehavioral development, and significantly reduces hospital stay, in addition to strengthening parental bonding. This article aims to analyze the influence of the Kangaroo Method on clinical stability and length of hospitalization among preterm infants, through a narrative review of national and international literature. Physiological, psychological and clinical aspects associated with its benefits were examined, as well as scientific evidence from Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Findings demonstrate that the Kangaroo Method improves temperature control, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, glycemic stability, pain response, and exclusive breastfeeding, while reducing infections, stress, and hospital length of stay. It is concluded that the Kangaroo Method is a highly effective, low-cost intervention with proven positive impact, essential for improving neonatal care quality.
