Abstract

The study analyzes the perceptions of scientific editors in the field of Agricultural Sciences regarding open science and editorial sustainability, based on responses collected through questionnaires administered to editors from Latin America and other countries. The results highlight structural and cultural differences between the contexts analyzed: while Latin American editors value collaborative, free-of-charge, and institutionally supported models, international editors operate within systems driven by metrics, prestige, and publication fees. The research reveals tensions between the democratization of knowledge and the commodification of science, emphasizing the need to rethink editorial practices from an ethical, inclusive, and financially fair perspective. It concludes that strengthening scientific communication requires policies that reconcile economic sustainability, professional recognition, and a public commitment to open access and epistemic diversity.
