VIABILIDADE ECONÔMICA E DESEMPENHO ESTRUTURAL EM PAVIMENTOS ASFÁLTICOS: UMA ANÁLISE QUALI-QUANTITATIVA

Abstract

Asphalt pavement is one of the main components of transportation infrastructure, playing a fundamental role in economic and social development. However, budget constraints and the growing demand for durability pose significant challenges in decision-making regarding material selection and design methods. In this context, this study aims to analyze the economic feasibility of asphalt pavements through a qualitative and quantitative approach, considering material characterization, mix design methods, and expected performance throughout the pavement life cycle. The methodology is based on a comparative analysis between the Marshall and Superpave mix design methods, as well as the evaluation of different asphalt mixtures and binders, including technologies such as Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA), warm mix asphalt (WMA), and modified binders. The expected results indicate that the adoption of more accurate mix design methods and high-performance materials, although requiring higher initial investment, leads to greater durability, improved road safety, and reduced maintenance costs over time. It is concluded that economic efficiency in asphalt pavement design is directly related to the integration of structural performance, sustainability, and life-cycle cost analysis.
