Palliative Care is a broad approach that seeks to meet the needs of individuals in life-threatening situations, with a focus on reducing symptoms and improving the quality of life of the patient and their families, however, the lack of knowledge of health professionals makes care difficult. The objective is to highlight the production of knowledge about the main difficulties faced by health professionals in the context of palliative care and the coping skills in the process of caring for hospitalized patients with life-threatening health conditions. This is an integrative literature review, in the PubMed, LILACS and SciElo databases. Articles published in the last ten years were included, which discussed the issues faced by professionals who provide palliative care to hospitalized patients and were available in full. The exclusion criteria included book chapters, theses, dissertations and duplicate articles. The selection of articles was carried out through exploratory reading of titles and abstracts. Subsequently, a detailed reading of the selected sources was carried out to order and summarize the information. The research highlighted several situations that make it difficult for health professionals to provide care to palliative patients. Among them, the implementation of effective strategies that can promote a more productive and less stressful daily environment for these professionals. Most of the studies analyzed highlighted the need to improve professional qualifications in this area, and it is essential to address this topic in undergraduate health courses and disseminate knowledge, promoting the development of new strategies to deal with difficulties.
