Abstract

To describe the benefits and main indications for hormone replacement therapy during menopause. Methods: This study was conducted through a systematic review of the literature addressing the benefits of hormone therapy during menopause, using the EMBASE and MEDLINE databases, using the DeCS/MeSH descriptors “Hormone Replacement Therapy” and “Menopause”, using the Boolean operator “and” between the descriptors, as represented below: “Hormone Replacement Therapy” and “Menopause”. Results/Discussion: After the steps described in the study methodology, 14 articles were selected through a targeted search in the EMBASE and MEDLINE databases. The selected studies subsequently underwent a process of reading and critical analysis in order to determine the objective of the present study, which would be to present the benefits and indications for hormone treatment during menopause. Final Considerations: Hormone therapy is an effective treatment for symptoms resulting from menopause, contributing, for example, with protective effects on the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems.
