Abstract

Premature tooth loss can compromise essential functions of the stomatognathic system, in addition to affecting patients’ aesthetics and quality of life. In this context, autogenous tooth transplantation emerges as a conservative, biological, and cost-effective therapeutic alternative for oral rehabilitation, particularly in young patients, in whom dental implant placement may be contraindicated due to ongoing craniofacial growth. The objective of this study was to report a clinical case of autogenous tooth transplantation using a third molar as the donor tooth. This case report involves a 12-year-old female patient treated at the teaching clinic of Faculdade Gamaliel. Clinical and radiographic evaluation revealed extensive coronal destruction of tooth 16, rendering restorative or endodontic treatment unfeasible. As a therapeutic alternative, immediate autogenous transplantation of tooth 18 into the recipient alveolus was performed. The transplanted tooth was stabilized with nylon wire in an infraocclusion position to prevent occlusal trauma during the healing process. Clinical and radiographic follow-up was conducted over a 12-month period, demonstrating absence of mobility, a healthy periodontium, and continuous root development. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that autogenous tooth transplantation represents an effective and safe alternative for oral rehabilitation, providing functional and structural restoration of the lost tooth.
