MILITARY POLICE AND PUBLIC SECURITY INTELLIGENCE: CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES TO TACKLE CRIMINALITY

Abstract

Introduction: The growing complexity of contemporary crime fosters technological advances and increasingly sophisticated criminal methods, prompting public security forces to adopt more effective strategies. In this context, police intelligence emerges as a fundamental tool for supporting preventive and operational actions within the Military Police. Objective: To analyze and highlight the contribution of police intelligence to preventing criminal activity, especially within the Military Police, based on evidence from recent scientific literature. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review, guided by the PICo strategy, with searches conducted in the LILACS, SciELO, and Google Scholar databases. Articles published between 2023 and 2025, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, that mentioned police intelligence in the context of the Military Police were included. After analyzing the inclusion and exclusion criteria, four studies comprised the final corpus. Results/Discussions: The studies analyzed point to structural and operational challenges to strengthening police intelligence, such as the lack of interagency integration protocols, institutional resistance to the adoption of technologies like AI and georeferencing, methodological limitations, and unequal access to scientific infrastructure. Even so, the publications suggest promising strategies, such as the use of hybrid models, spatial data integration, and institutional strengthening. Conclusion: Police intelligence is a strategic tool in combating crime. However, its effectiveness depends on continuous investment, interagency integration, technological development, and the guarantee of fundamental rights. The study reinforces the need for public policies that strengthen public security intelligence as a pillar of crime prevention.
