Abstract

Hyperthyroidism is a clinical condition characterized by excessive production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. These hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), play crucial roles in metabolism and in the regulation of several physiological functions. An imbalance in the production of these hormones can lead to a series of significant complications, affecting multiple organ systems. Therefore, this narrative literature review gathered articles from the PUBMED database with the aim of indicating the main complications related to hyperthyroidism, in addition to briefly mentioning their symptoms and diagnosis. It was noted that the main complications related to hyperthyroidism are: cardiovascular crisis, bone crisis, thyrotoxic crisis, thyrotoxic myopathy, liver crisis and Graves' ophthalmopathy, in addition to a significant impact on the mental health of patients. In addition, the diagnosis is based on clinical history, physical examination and laboratory tests. Symptoms are diverse and reflect the increase in basal metabolism.
