Resumen

ABSTRACT: Filicide, understood as the killing of children perpetrated by their parents, remains under-recognized in official statistics due to the absence of specific categories and the limitations of disaggregated data, which restrict deeper analyses of family trajectories, prior conjugal conflicts, and institutional responses. This article proposes a qualitative case study based on content analysis of news reports and digital sources related to a recent episode of filicide that occurred in Manaus. The aim is to reconstruct the public narrative of the event, examine the initial institutional discourses, identify precursor signs of extreme violence, and analyze gaps in state responses disclosed in the immediate aftermath of the crime. The central research problem is to understand to what extent the case, as presented by media coverage, expresses recurring patterns of domestic violence and weaknesses in child protection, as well as its implications for improving public policies aimed at preventing intrafamilial lethal violence in the Amazonian context. The study contributes to the social and academic debate on extreme violence within the family, the public construction of crime, and the intersectoral challenges of child protection.

Keywords: Filicide. Domestic violence. Childhood.
