Abstract

Introduction: Stomach cancer stands out as the fifth most frequent, with approximately 21 thousand diagnoses. In the male population, this neoplasm is the fourth most common, corresponding to approximately 5.9% of cases. Infection by the bacterium Helicobacter Pylori is the main risk factor for the emergence of stomach cancer. Adenocarcinoma is the most common histological type, accounting for up to 95% of identified cases. Objective: to describe the socioepidemiological profile of mortality due to malignant neoplasms of the stomach in Brazil, during the period from 2019 to 2023. Methodology: Observational, cross-sectional, descriptive study, through the collection of epidemiological data, obtained from the Department of Information Technology of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), in the subsections of the Mortality Information System (SIM). Data on the distribution of age group, sex, race/color and geographic region were collected through DATASUS data referring to ICD10-C16. Results: Between 2019 and 2023, 72,293 deaths from malignant gastric neoplasms were recorded in Brazil. The results showed a higher prevalence of deaths among men (63%), white individuals (48.58%), elderly individuals aged 70 to 79 years (26.40%), and residents of the Southeast region (43.93%). Conclusion: The data highlight the relevance of implementing preventive strategies and health policies focused on the early detection and efficient treatment of this neoplasm, with the aim of reducing inequalities in access to health services and promoting the well-being of the Brazilian population.
